Exploring the impact of climate change on the mangroves

The Mithi River Region in Mumbai encompassing its mangroves ecosystems, faces a pressing environmental crisis today driven by urban development, pollution and the growing threats of sea level rise and climate change. The mangroves are more than just natural features, they are essential for the wellbeing of both the local environment and communities(Kothi Wada and Mumbai residents) The challenges and impacts of mangrove degradation and related conservation and development projects impact all of Mumbai’s mangroves. Mumbai’s youth are in a unique position to make a significant impact on the preservation and restoration of mangroves. Mumbai’s mangrove cover while gradually decreasing, there is an information gap among Mumbai’s youth regarding the challenges faced by the city’s mangroves. They are the key to influencing change, advocating for sustainable practices and participating in restoration projects. Hence, what better means to inform the youth then through a timeline.

The degradation of Mumbai’s mangrove ecosystems, exacerbated by urban development policies, necessitates the urgent need to enhance awareness and effectiveness of mitigation strategies among the city’s youth.
